Pawleys Island South Carolina
has accommodations that range from national hotel chains located right across the causeway to historic island summer cottages. Pawleys is a barrier island located 22 miles south of Myrtle Beach and 12 miles north of Georgetown. The Island’s immediate neighbors are Litchfield Beach to the north and Debordieu to the south. Many residential homes are available for rent on the island that vary in size; some are large enough to accommodate large families, and others are cottage-type beach houses, perfect for a couple. A condo complex with summer rentals is also located on Pawleys Island, as well as two inns – one has 20-rooms and serves three meals per day, while the other has eight rooms and serves breakfast and lunch daily. Pawleys also has a historic beachfront bed & breakfast, built in 1937, that features 14 rooms in the main house and six cottage rooms. Most accommodations on the island are within 3 to 5 miles of Huntington Beach State Park and Brookgreen Gardens, with unlimited recreational opportunities located right on the island.
Just five miles north of Pawleys Island is Litchfield Plantation, a 1750s rice plantation that is now a luxury country inn featuring 38 suites, villas and cottages. This quiet, secluded retreat recalls the antebellum graciousness and rich history of the Old South. It sits on 600 acres and a dramatic quarter-mile avenue of magnificent moss-draped oaks leads to the former plantation house. Along with the plantation house, there are 2 and 3 bedroom cottages and villas tucked under the oak trees or situated on the banks of Chapel Creek that meanders through the property. There is also a four-star gated golf resort located on Pawleys Island that offers 184 rooms and villas. A tennis court, two restaurants and seasonal outdoor swimming pool are also located on the premises of the golf resort. Summer months are the busiest on Pawleys Island and weekly rentals usually run from Saturday to Saturday, with special rates for the off-season. Places fill up quickly; so advance reservations are recommended. Specific information on rentals on Pawleys Island can be obtained from rental companies or the specific hotel or inn.
With it’s close proximity to Georgetown (twelve miles north) many visitors stay in that city and make Pawleys Island a day trip. The city of Georgetown offers a greater number of hotels and motels, as well as bed & breakfasts. Many are within easy walking distance of Georgetown’s historic waterfront district. Most hotels feature pools, continental breakfasts, clean and comfortable rooms and facilities to meet the needs of corporate travelers and vacationers. For the Bed & Breakfast enthusiasts, quite a few historic townhomes and even an original rice plantation welcome you as their personal guests. B&Bs are perfect for a romantic getaway or a relaxing vacation and each property has its own distinct character. One thing all Pawleys Island and Georgetown accommodations have in common is good old Southern hospitality – none better found anyplace else in the world.
